ABOUT ME
I am Emily, a creative counsellor with a background in art & design, teaching and special educational needs. I am a registered member of the BACP. I'm a parent of neurodivergent children and am neurodivergent myself. I am able to bring some of my own experiences to support those who are exploring what it means to be autistic or have ADHD.
As a person of faith, I recognise that often our spiritual values and beliefs affect our 'way of being'. It can be helpful to explore these during counselling sessions. If faith is important to you and you wish this to be part of our work together, please do mention this to me.
Professional development and training are vital to me to stay up-to-date with the latest therapeutic practices. Since I qualified I have attended many counselling courses and conferences. These have included 'Muss Rewind Technique', used for trauma therapy, 'Black Identities + White Therapies' conference and multiple neurodiversity seminars.
Experience & Qualifications
I worked in the design industry and in education for over 20 years before training to become a counsellor in 2019. I studied at Leeds Beckett University, whilst volunteering as a counsellor for Pathways Counselling Leeds and Bradford Bereavement Support. Alongside these studies I worked as a job coach for a SEND college (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) in Leeds, supporting neurodivergent young people in their supported internships. It was there that I founded and ran their counselling provision in 2022, and I partner with them now to maintain this service.
